NBP ALSF-2/SSALR SERVICE LIFE EXTENSION PROGRAM (SLEP)
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
- ALSF-2/SSALR Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) extends the life of the old Godfrey and Airflo ALSF-2/SSALR systems by several years through implementation of a retrofit kit consisting of three air-cooled 50KW Constant Current Regulators (CCRs) and one Replacement Lamp Monitoring System (RLMS). The integration of the SLEP assemblies into the existing systems will require no modification to the ALSF-2/SSALR assemblies and will only require minimal downtime. The addition of the ALSF-2/SSALR SLEP results in substantial cost savings in both the operation and maintenance of the current non-NBP systems.
RLMS DESCRIPTION
- The Replacement Lamp Monitoring System (RLMS), (FAA Type FA-10724) is a unique system that will reliably monitor, under all operational conditions, the lights of a Dual Mode High Intensity Approach Lighting System (ALSF-2/SSALR). The elements of the RLMS were developed by NBP and qualified by the FAA under contract DTFA0l-93-Y-0I014 for the next generation ALSF-2/SSALR. The RLMS consists of two self-contained stand alone cabinets that are installed in the ALSF-2 substation. The RLMS transceiver/shorting device replaces the existing shorting device in each lamp housing. Complete modification to an existing system consists of simply connecting the test connector located inside the CM assembly to the RLMS control unit, as well as replacing the existing shorting device in each lamp housing.
